The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Video review systems will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Players will gain the right to question specific calls made by the chair umpire, following the system already in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move follows just a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old role of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review specific decisions, such as:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible hindrance end of a point.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the number of challenges a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
A recent example took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire watched a video and determined Draper was responsible for interference, granting the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open this year.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have the system in place at every one of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
